Character Bios

Gil Grissom: Grissom has been promoted from senior officer on the graveyard forensics shift to the head of the Las Vegas Criminalistics Bureau. An investigator of the old school, with 17 years on the job, Grissom eschews computer simulations and readouts for the old-fashioned, hands-on technique and legwork. He supervises a team of very diverse professionals on the night shift, and goes to the wall to protect them from department interference and the consequences of their own risky decisions both on and off the job. Grissom, whose speciality is entomology, is a loner. His work is his life - for him, it's the perfect synthesis of personality and profession.

Catherine Willows: A single parent with a young daughter, Catherine is a former exotic dancer turned street-smart veteran criminalist who juggles the job she loves with her responsibilities at home. The horrors of the crime scenes Catherine investigates bring her fears for her child into sharper focus, making her even more determined to shield her little girl from the seamier, shadowy side of Vegas that steps out of the shadows once the sun goes down. Catherine’s speciality is blood spatter, and she loves the challenge of her job. This is one tough lady, but she has an inner depth that is rarely exposed unless her daughter or fellow team are in danger.

Warrick Brown: Brown is the hotshot on the night shift. He fuels the fire he has for the job by constantly challenging his fellow investigators. The competition among them may be a game, but Brown knows how to get serious when it comes to the work. He knows he’s good, but wants to be better - both on the scene and at controlling his personal demons as he was once addicted to gambling. He knows it was his own questionable behaviour that led his worthiness in the team to be questioned in the past, but, with his speciality in audio visual analysis and his straight-talking nature, Warrick is a fully trusted member of the CSI team.

Nick Stokes: Son of a state DA and a public defender, Nick was born into law enforcement; becoming a CSI was a way of living up to his parents’ expectations. Maybe that’s why everything feels so personal to him. He has no distance from his work because he’s always been close to the people he works with. Nick’s aware he has a social responsibility to uphold, but does his job without an agenda. He’s finding it harder than he expected to lay down roots in Vegas, but he persists. As a CSI, Nick’s specialty is hair and fibre analysis

Sara Sidle: An only child of ex-hippies running a B&B, Sara’s her intelligence, energy and curiosity always needed a bigger stage; she’s an all-or-nothing kinda gal. She threw herself into academic life before getting headhunted by Grissom. Sara has a single flaw: people. She can master any problem except the puzzle of other people and how to relate to them; as a result, she hides in her job. As a CSI, Sara’s specialty is materials and element analysis.

Capt. Jim Brass: After a troubled start in law enforcement, Brass joined CSI as a fresh start; he could get his fix of the investigative process without having to expend any personal capital. His life gently slid into strip bars and J&B doubles, and all was well enough until a young newbie named Holly Gribbs showed up. Her death cost Brass his job and his peace of mind. Brass has been transferred back to homicide, which he finds familiar and easy – that’ll do for the short term. The long term is irrelevant for Brass; he stopped believing in the future long ago.

Dr. Albert Robbins M.E.: Robbins spent his life as an underdog. He took solace in books from an early age, discovering an aptitude for academia. After years working as a GP, strictly out of academic curiosity, he became an Assistant Coroner for the Arlington, working his way up to Coroner in two years. Fighting the good fight left him drained, so Robbins packed up and moved to Las Vegas, where he’s free to pursue his own interests and indulge his greatest love – his family.

Greg Sanders: Addicted to the pursuit of knowledge, zealous Greg has been on a quest to learn all he can about the scientific breakthroughs of the past centuries ever since he picked up his first chemistry kit, aged seven. After years of lobbying for a shot at working in the field with the CSI team, under the watchful eye of Grissom and his co-workers he was able to complete his transition from lab-rat to fully fledged CSI.

Sofia Curtis: A CSI who became part of Gil's team after the mid-season 5 split, courtesy of Ecklie. She soon considered resignation, upset at the fact that she had been demoted from acting day shift supervisor. A recurring character in season five, but in season six she moved from being a CSI to a Detective. When considering a case or crime scene, she thinks out loud, noting what she is thinking and seeing. On her first appearance, she explained to Grissom that it was the best way for her to concentrate, to notice, to understand, and to remember everything.
